How to Prepare for Your Tattoo Appointment
A practical appointment prep guide for custom tattoo clients visiting Synergy Body Art in Lakewood.
A better tattoo day starts before you arrive. Bring clear references, eat beforehand, hydrate, avoid alcohol, and wear clothing that gives the artist clean access to the placement area.
Eat and hydrate first
Getting tattooed on an empty stomach is the most common reason people feel faint in the chair. Have a proper meal within a couple of hours of your appointment and drink water through the day. For longer sessions, bring a snack and a drink — you're allowed to take breaks.
Skip alcohol beforehand
Alcohol thins the blood, which makes the skin harder to work on and can affect how the tattoo takes. Give yourself a clear night before the appointment. Arrive rested rather than running on no sleep.
Look after the skin
Show up with clean, unbroken, un-sunburnt skin. Don't shave the area unless your artist asked you to — they'll handle it. If the area is sunburnt, peeling, or irritated, tell the studio in advance rather than on the day.
Plan the logistics
Know how you're getting there and leave time to park and find the studio at Colorado Mills Mall (inside Phenix Salon Suites). Bring valid ID. If you want someone with you, check with the studio about space before assuming they can sit in.
Get ready for a long sit
For anything beyond a small piece, bring headphones or something to occupy you, wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting ink on, and accept that a break or two makes the session better, not worse.

Frequently asked
Should I shave the area before my tattoo?
No, leave it to your artist unless they specifically ask you to. They will shave and prepare the skin properly at the start of the appointment, which avoids razor irritation on the area being tattooed.
Can I bring someone with me?
Check with the studio first. Space varies by day and station, so it's best to ask before bringing anyone. One support person is usually easier to accommodate than a group.
What should I wear to a tattoo appointment?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that gives your artist easy access to the placement and that you don't mind getting ink on. For example, wear a tank top for shoulder work or shorts for leg work. Dark clothes are a good idea. Ask the studio if you're unsure.
How long will my appointment take?
It depends on the size, detail and placement of the tattoo. Your artist will give you a realistic estimate at the consultation, before the session is scheduled. Plan some extra time for stencil placement and final adjustments.
What if I need to reschedule?
Contact the studio as early as possible at 720-670-0827. Early notice helps the artist fill the time and makes it easier to find you a new slot. Call to confirm the current scheduling requirements for your appointment.
